Speaker Bio
Dr. Robert J. Mayer is the Stephen B. Kay Family Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Faculty Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He was raised in New York, is a graduate of Williams College and Harvard Medical School, was a medical resident at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and a Clinical Associate at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. He returned to Boston in 1974, developing a multi-disciplinary clinical and research program in gastrointestinal oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and also serving as the Director of the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program sponsored by the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in collaboration with the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Massachusetts General Hospital. During his career, Dr. Mayer served on the Executive Committee of the American Board of Internal Medicine, was an Associate Editor of The New England Journal of Medicine and served as President of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He has held the position of Faculty Associate Dean for Admissions at Harvard Medical School for the past 17 years.
